Kinobe Herbert project

Throughout May and early June 2006, CHiLLUM WOODS SOUND has been working hard on a debut release of the Ugandan prodigy Kinobe Herbert's music. These recordings will contribute to his album which is being distributed by the US company World Music store.

Kinobe is a very talented young man and a well known musician in African music circles and the European festival circuit. Although only twenty two, he has been performing internationally for many years (enough to have to carry eight passports worth of visas when he travels!). He is primarily an instrumentalist and he not only plays most traditional instruments from throughout Africa, he also builds them with comparable mastery. Samples from the album will be available soon. Look out for the world music press reviews over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, here is a sample of Kinobe's instrumental playing, in a piece featuring Thornhead telling a story in Luo. (Words, in Luo and English translation, to come soon.) This spontaneous recording is the inspiration for the next Blue Mango performance: The Luo Recitals. Check the live events section for further details.
