Chillum Woods Sound presents...
The "Chillum Woods Sound presents..." series showcases both new and established artists, and the recordings present the cullmination of collaborative work between Chillum Woods Sound and the artists.
Akiiki Romeo
The first release from this series presents some exciting new material from popular Ugandan singer Akiiki Romeo. The chance meeting between Akiiki and Gdava Woods, in Kampala in the summer of 2005, lead to this opportunity for Akiiki to take some of the traditional songs of his childhood and home lands of Bunyoro, and, with Gdava, arrange them for an international audience. Recorded at Gdava Woods' private studio in Kampala, and featuring the talents of Wak Yuli on guitars and Kinobe on thumb piano and kora, the cd has been well received both with the press and the public.
"... this is an excellent CD that no fan of World Music should pass by... a perfect escape from most of the mainstream so-called music that assaults our ears daily!"
Joseph Batte, The New Vision, 31st March, 2006.
You can hear Akiiki discussing his current project with Chillum Woods Sound, his career and his future aims with Capital Radio's DJ Alex in part two of the interview available from the media pages. In part one the conversation focusses on the life, work and death of Ali Farka Toure, Ugandan artists and World Music in general.
Samples from the cd can be found on the media pages too, and video footage from the cd launch will be posted soon.
