Romeo Trains Local Artistes

Black Mamba, Kampala, Uganda. Vol.1 No.18. Aug 18-24 2006

A re-known Runyakitara artiste and Capital FM producer Akiiki Romeo has embarked on a serious programme of training and recording music from local artistes in Bunyoro and Toro regions.

Romeo says his aim is to promote local music in and out of the country as well as enhancing traditional culture. He has recorded a lot of local music from local artistes in Kibaale district and is on his way to Hoima, Masindi and Bulisa districts before shifting to Oyo's Toro kingdom.

He is expected in few months' time to fly to the UK to fundraise for the local music and artistes. He said Runyakitara music can sell internationally.

However with all the excitement to be trained by Akiiki Romeo on Sunday, one of the local artistes from Kakayo Jazz band knocked down a 60-year old Mzee with a bicycle leaving him unconscious.

The artiste is currently in Kagadi police cells to answer charges of reckless riding.
